Anyone involved with web sites, be it the developer, the designer, the business owner or any other staff will have heard no end of “well, I think green is better for the links than red”, “I think dropdown boxes are better than tick boxes”, “I don’t think anyone will watch the video” …

These can be very frustrating meetings that often lead to no improvement to a web site what so ever.

And why do so many people let “I think” and “gut feel” lead what should be sounds business decision making instead of looking at the hard facts?

One of the beauties of the web is that you don’t have to guess – just look at your web stats! Try the green link for 2 weeks then try the red link for two weeks and see which one got clicked the most. Put the video online and see how many people watched it.

Look at your stats and see where your visitors are going wrong, where do you loose them? Then fix the “leakage” – it’s simple really when you look at the facts.

Did you know that companies now are changing from “management meetings” to “Google analytics meetings”, every thing evolves around the facts.

So next time you are about to suggest changes to your site, check the facts first.

Or next time you need to convince the boss/board/developer to do changes for you why not show them the facts in stead of argue based on “gut feel”…
